Winning at 'Google-opoly!-Why just having a website is not enough.

Article id: 2090 Author: Jim Farnsworth Submit date: June 19, 2009 Views: 75

Everyone knows the game Monopoly. In its numerous variations, it has to be one of the world's most popular board games.

Easy to learn, but hard to master, I know that I've spent many hours buying up properties, adding houses and hotels, and acting like Snydley Whiplash, when someone would land on one of my properties. (Remember Snydley?...Dudley Dooright, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police..??....oh, never mind!)

Amazingly, I've come to the conclusion that I am now playing a version of Monopoly on the Internet...no, not the online version of the game. I call it GOOGLE-OPOLY!

OK, that's not my word. If you search for Google-Opoly, you will find references to grumblings years ago, from bloggers complaining about how Google seemed to be chasing a 'monopoly' on search engines. But I digress.

Think about it. There are 10 organic listings on the left side of a Google page. Compare those spaces to the properties along any one side of a Monopoly board. My strategy with Monopoly was basically the same: buy ALL the properties on one side of the board; load them up with houses & hotels; sit back, and watch the fun....and MONEY...roll in.

The strategy in Google-opoly, is the same; acquire as many 'properties' as you can, thus raising your visibility for that search term. But the properties I'm talking about are the ten organic listings on Google's Page 1. Let me repeat that: you want to 'occupy' as many of those spaces as possible.

I know what you're thinking. "Wait a minute. It's hard enough to get a higher ranking for any website on Google, let alone get to Page 1. And now, you're saying to get MULTIPLE listings on Page 1? How is that feasible?"

I need to clarify one item. I'm not talking about getting your internet site on page 1; I'm talking about submitting an online video about your business.

By now, everyone knows about the popularity of online videos, and how the search engines are giving properly optimized videos Page 1 rankings within HOURS.

But it is the submission of videos to multiple video sharing sites, that cause the search engines to list not just one video, but several videos from various sites. A single video, submitted to different video sites, is seen as separate files. Thus , the search engines will actually list it several times.

Video submission software, such as Video Wildfire, allow the end user to submit a single video to up to 50 video sites, at the click of a mouse.

Those ten listings on Page 1 are the most valuable real estate on the Internet, in particular for local search. Those are the initial ads that the person doing the search will see. If your video is not on Google's Page 1, your chances of being found fall dramatically. Most people will stop at page 1. With online video submissions making it possible for a one company to have multiple listings on Page 1, there is a very genuine possibility of a single business organization owning ALL TEN listings.

It can be done. I've done it. I have several keyword phrases where I have 8, yes, all TEN listings on Page 1 of Google.

For local search, for a keyword phrase returning 300,000 results or less, it is very likely that a local company can submit multiple videos, over time, say once or twice a month, and sustain their control over a chosen keyword phrase.

A 30-60 second video will grab a prospect's attention, make your short 'pitch', and send them to your website or phone number. It's really no different than a 30-second commercial on TV...only when people find your video, they're actually looking for the information. And, an online video is a whole lot less pricey than a TV commercial!

The important thing to remember is that your company gets SEEN! And for that to happen, you need to be on Page 1.
